Nationally, school districts are required to provide their communities with a report card of student progress in meeting the state standards. These standards require assessments in reading, mathematics, science, and writing. Currently, Maine uses the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) to assess and measure progress in Reading and Math for students in grades 3-8 and in Writing in grades 5 and 8. The Maine Education Assessment (MEA) is used to measure progress in Science in grades 5 and 8, and the Maine High School Assessment (MHSA) is used to measure progress in Science at grade 11. Maine is the only state nationwide that uses The College Board’s SAT at grade 11 to measure progress in Reading, Math, and Writing. All third-year students at Noble High School take the SAT.

When you view the report card via the link below, you will find that each grade level includes a table that contains this data. The tables include two years of data along with a comparison to the State of Maine data to. It is important to note that although the NECAP is administered to students in grades 3 – 8 in the fall, those students are being assessed on the standards from the previous school year. For example, third grade students are assessed in October, but they are being assessed on the grade 2 learning standards in Math and Reading. Grade references pertain to the standards being assessed.
